Welcome Players! My training is going better than my skill practice, but we’re here for a long time not a good time so in the end the skewed time spent training will benefit more in the long run than it hurts in the short run.

Training Week in Review
Miami summer ain’t nothing to **** with.
All activities are basically restricted to before 10a or after 5p if you don’t want to risk heat exhaustion and severe sun-burn.
With that said I didn’t get a chance to play a round on the books, but I did play a practice round and absolutely dominated my training this week.
Another notch in the Progress, Not Perfection journal.
Habit Tracker
Another good week of consistent daily practice. I’m always pretty whooped/busy on Mondays and it’s been a theme that I don’t do much practice then.
I’m actually OK with that. I think time away from practice and goals is important to maintain sustainability.
The 7th I did roll a few putts and chips but it wasn’t anything significantly and I forgot how many I did by time I went to go log them so I decided to just leave that blank for accuracy purposes.
The carpet chipping is really benefiting as I’ve written about, but I’m getting to a point where that’s becoming a little too easy so will need to figure out more mini-games in my apt. that I can play to continue to develop skills.
Training Log
Resistance Train (Gym): 2
Conditioning (Road Bike): 2
Because I didn’t play a round this week I was able to get in an extra training session.
The 4th of July I rode 50 miles on the bike, my longest ride yet. And had two really, really solid resistance training sessions.
I’m feeling really really good physically. Training for the past 6 months is really paying off.
I feel strong, healthy, and have not once come across fatigue while golfing. That was exactly my goal and why I structured my non-golf training the way I did.
Now that we’re halfway through the year and I feel as good as I do, it’s a perfect time to re-test my performance attributes in the gym and put objective numbers to the improvement.
I’ll be looking to do that at the end of this week, so you can expect to see a thorough 6-month update on progress in next week’s update.
Skill Practice
I played a practice round this week in lieu of a record-round.
There were a few reasons I chose to make it an undocumented practice round (I didn’t keep score):
It was hot as hell and I wasn’t mentally locked in for a recorded round
I wanted to play quick; the course was empty and was planning on picking up gimme putts
I wanted to work on a few course-specific things without having pressure of scoring
I wanted to take advantage of an empty course and play multiple balls per shot, which I did
With all that said I think I’m going to try and incorporate more ‘practice rounds’ in my schedule.
I found it very beneficial to work on different shots/strategies while in play on the course instead of just at the range.
Getting to hit the ball off different lies, in different positions, with different targets and hazards simulated a much more realistic environment that just can’t be replicated on the range.
It also allowed me to work on my putting which I’ve historically struggled with.
So this practice round I made an emphasis to practice lag putting; essentially trying to make sure on long putts (20ft+) that I got it within 3ft to the hole and 2-putted so I would avoid 3-putts.
Overall it was a good round, I ended up playing 15 holes (skipped a few slow people that I came across) and felt confident in my irons and approach shots.
I couldn’t get my driver going until the back 9 and only had a few flubs on my chip shots, but those are both things I need to focus on to improve and will make them an emphasis for next time.
Wrap-Up
It’s the dog days of summer where winners are made.
I’ll be looking to do a performance evaluation next week to get objective numbers on my improvement as well as play another practice round with a focus on driving accuracy and chipping/pitching.
Other than that it’s full steam ahead until I can get a round on-the-books to break 90, but it will be difficult to find a suitable weather where it’s still enjoyable and not miserable.
After all, I do still want to have fun.
